Kia ora and welcome to Timata Kowhiti, Jump Start Educare, Cambridge’s leading childcare centre. We’re passionate about giving your child lifelong love of learning through creative play. We’re more than just a childcare centre, we’re a community – at Jump Start we collaborate with parents, whanau and teachers to create the best environment for your child to grow.
LEARN at Jump Start. We nurture each child’s individual strengths and interests while simultaneously fostering a team culture – creating friendships that will last a lifetime. Literacy, mathematics, science and the arts are naturally integrated into play, this encourages children to become confident participants in their own learning.
PLAY at Jump Start. We offer a wide variety of rich, creative play resources that support growth and development. Your child will spend their days exploring and discovering through stimulating indoor activities, and will enjoy adventuring around our large outdoor space including our fun playground.
SAFETY at Jump Start. Children are nourished in mind, body and spirit within a safe, secure and nurturing environment – our teacher to child ratio is above and beyond the minimum requirements (1:4 for under two-year olds, and 1:8 for over two-year olds).
TIKANGA at Jump Start. We value the heritage of Aotearoa in our daily programme, and embrace all cultures within our centre. We support children to become individuals who are curious about their world and have the powerful potential to learn from all that surrounds them – this vision underpins everything we do at Jump Start Educare.
We embrace the principles of the Reggio Emilia Philosophy – an innovative and inspiring approach to early childhood education which values the child as strong, capable and resilient; rich with wonder and knowledge. The Philosophy rides on the coattails of the innate curiosity of children and aims to assist them with understanding their world and who they are in it.
The Reggio Emilia philosophy is based upon the following set of principles:
Children are curious, capable learners and have powerful potential. Children are provided with the opportunity to explore. Children have endless ways and opportunities to express themselves. Our learners bring with them their knowledge and experiences from home, and their family and social contexts.
In the Reggio approach, the teacher is considered a co-learner and collaborator with the child and not just an instructor. Teachers are encouraged to facilitate the child’s learning by planning activities and lessons based on the child’s interests, asking questions to further understanding, and actively engaging in the activities alongside the child, instead of passively observing the child learning.
OUR TEAM
Alida Tooby
Manager
My role at Jump Start is to look after the daily operations and coordinate the centre’s programmes. I work closely with our teachers to create the best learning environment for children, focusing on quality education and care. I have a Bachelor of Management, Diploma in Teaching and a Diploma in Leadership – early childhood education. The first 100 days are so important to getting started in life and I feel blessed to join our children on their learning journey.

Head Teacher
It’s a pleasure to be a part of the Jump Start whanau. My role is to work with the manager and provide guidance on how we can best provide quality education to our tamariki. I treasure the time that I get to spend with the children and enjoy having a bit of a laugh with other teachers and parents. The best part of the day though is getting to sing and dance with the tamariki. Qualifications I bring to this role are a Diploma in Primary School Teaching and a Masters in Education.
Rochelle Tuwhangai
Teacher
Ko Rochelle Tuwhangai, Toku Ingoa. I love working with children and watching them develop into happy little explorers. I have a diploma in Raranga (flax weaving) with four years making Kete, Whariki and Putiputi, I love sharing these activities with the kids. I started as a cook at Jump Start and now I’m working towards qualifying for a teacher’s role, so I can further support the growth of our tamariki.

I really enjoy teaching at Jump Start as I love their ethos of encouraging child-led learning through discovery and creative play. I have a Bachelor in Teaching, early childhood education, and I’ve worked in the industry for over 15 years! Working with tamariki every day is so great, they’re open and honest in their conversations and I’m always learning something new from them.

I love working with children because they’ve all got such unique personalities – you never know what great thing they’re going to do or say and they come up with some hilarious things! Working at Jump Start is amazing because not only do you build relationships with the tamariki, but with the whanau and extended whanau. My qualification relevant to this role is a Bachelor of Teaching in early childhood education.

KOWHAI ROOM
A quiet space for our littles ones where they feel safe and ready to explore.
RIMU ROOM
A space for our kids to play, create, run around and express themselves.
WHANAU AREA
A place where parents can discreetly observe their little ones without interrupting learning and play.
TIMES & FEES
TIMES
Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5:30pm.
Children under three years old must attend at least 6 hours per day.
Children three years old and over must attend at least 7 hours per day.
All children must attend for a minimum of two days per week.
We’ve put this in place so your child develops a strong sense of belonging at Jump Start and establishes relationships with other children and the staff.
FEES
Our standard fee is $50 per day, per child.
If you book a full week (five days), the fee is $200 (one day free).
By arrangement children under one year old can be charged $10 per hour with a minimum booking of 4 hours a day, 3 days a week.
You may be eligible for a WINZ subsidy (terms and conditions apply). We are happy to help you apply for this.
Once your child turns three years old, they will be entitled to 20 hours free ECE. Should you wish to partake in the 20 hours scheme, a signed attestation must be completed.
